About the Role Our client, a multidisciplinary property and design consultancy known for delivering high‑quality, sustainable building solutions, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Health & Safety and CDM Manager to join their team and manage the reviewing and assessment of Contractor risk assessments, method statements and plans, ensuring regulatory compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with Senior Management and work in an autonomous role where you will be able to develop policies and procedures and take ownership of the H&S area of the business.

Based within a commutable distance from Ipswich, you will be responsible for Health and safety delivery, developing the CDM and H&S consultancy services to existing and new clients. The scope of services delivered are flexible, dependent upon the Client’s requirements, covering both CDM and H&S Management.

It is expected that you will grow the business unit and where necessary manage team members and external resources delivering the same on a project‑by‑project basis.

The H&S service works in tandem with the group wide HSQE requirements which are in place in terms of the workplace and some external operations. You will expect to work collaboratively with the larger group and ensure that policies and activities align accordingly. This also involve taking ownership and reporting into group statistics.

Key Responsibilities

Understand and develop existing systems and processes to improve compliance in relation to Building Safety Act, CDM and H&S.

To develop, market and sell the CDM and H&S as an offer to external parties.

To be responsible for delivery within Budgets and Margin delivery of the business entity.

Understand the HSQE role within the wider group and company relationship to the same.

To develop a team that provides clear CDM and health & safety advice to clients, project teams and contractors throughout project lifecycles.

Support the wider “group wide” Health & Safety team, contributing to policy documents, internal audits, business development activities and client engagement.

Champion a culture of health and safety, ensuring risks are effectively managed in pre‑construction and construction phases.

Provide expert advice and where required, act as Principal Designer and help the client manage and understand their legal responsibilities, in accordance with CDM regulations

Develop systems that ensure that our design studios fully comply with the requirements of the building safety act.

Establishing positive relations with existing and new Clients to gain confidence and become a trusted advocate

Representing the company in a professional and diligent manner including meeting, negotiating, and corresponding with Clients in a timely manner

Management of all commissions, where responsibility is assigned, to ensure both Client's expectations / scope of service and the requirements of the company’s business management system are effectively discharged

Manage the teams/resource delivering the Principal Designer role across all construction projects from conception through to completion, including handover of the Health and Safety File. If required undertake the role yourself.

Manage the overall delivery of CDM documentation (all projects), including Pre‑Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Construction Phase Plans.

Manager the reviewing and assessment of contractor risk assessments, method statements and plans, ensuring regulatory compliance.

Ensure teams are carrying out site inspections, audits and reporting, identifying improvements and promoting good practice.

Ensure teams are carrying out H&S performance reviews, audits etc. on behalf of the Client

Develop inhouse training to support our teams and provide a point of support for Building Safety Act, CDM and general HS.

Liaise, proactively and professionally with the Group HSQE, and wider colleagues to contribute to team effectiveness; support others as needed and ensure consistency, quality and profitability of shared projects.

Oversee the compiling and creating relevant pre‑construction information and relevant H&S files

Carrying out investigations in association with group HSQE into accidents and dangerous occurrences.

To keep up to date with prevailing legislation, case law, developing our service in parallel.

Qualifications Education and Professional Qualifications

Chartered (Ideally)

NEBOSH Construction Certificate

Degree, HND or HNC in a construction‑related discipline

Full UK driving licence

NEBOSH Diploma Level (or equivalent)

GradIOSH or equivalent

CSCS card

Desirable

Membership of the Association for Project Safety (Incorporated or above).

Principal Designer CDM qualification.

Additional professional memberships (e.g. IOSH).

Understanding of the Building Safety Act (My client is prepared to work with you to develop your knowledge of this)

Experience as a Principal Designer

Experience in a similar role within the construction industry.

Proven track record as a Principal Designer

Excellent communication skills

Ability to effectively plan and organise own workload to meet deadlines

Extensive knowledge and experience within the Construction Industry, specifically around the CDM Regulations

Experience of a diverse range of industry sectors desired, with a proven ability to meet Clients needs would be an advantage
