Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented
Payroll and Benefits Accountant
to join our fast‑paced accounting and HR operations team. This role is vital in ensuring accurate payroll processing, compliance with federal and state regulations, and proper accounting for employee benefits. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background, deep understanding of payroll reporting requirements, and a hands‑on approach to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Key Responsibilities
Process and reconcile multi‑state payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local laws
Maintain payroll records, including employee data, earnings, deductions, and taxes
Prepare and file federal and state payroll tax reports, including W‑2, W‑3, 940, and 941 forms
Support preparation and filing of annual benefit reports such as Form 5500
Reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger and assist with month‑end close activities
Administer benefit‑related accounting transactions, including employer contributions and employee deductions
Coordinate with HR and benefits providers to ensure accurate benefits enrollment, deductions, and reporting
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits in a timely and professional manner
Assist with audits and provide documentation for internal and external auditors
Identify opportunities to improve payroll and benefits accounting processes for greater efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
4–6 years of experience in payroll and benefits accounting
Experience with W‑2, W‑3, 940, 941, and 5500 forms strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and GAAP accounting principles
Proficiency with payroll and accounting software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, QuickBooks, or similar systems)
Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data reconciliation)
High attention to detail, organization, and confidentiality
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
