Supervising Special Investigator I (Lieutenant)

position within the Office of Protective Services (OPS) at Porterville Developmental Center (PDC). Under the direction of the Supervising Special Investigator II (Captain), Office of Protective Services (OPS). The Supervising Special Investigator I supervises Sergeants and Detectives and responds to investigative incidents 24/7 at the Developmental Centers and Community Facility (DC/CF). The facility provides services 24-hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7), and is responsible for ensuring consumer protection, staff safety, and public safety at all times. Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of two percent in exchange for 3.5 hours per month of Personal Leave. The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired. The position(s) require(s) a(n) POST or Specialized Investigators Basic Course Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired. The Office of Protective Services (OPS) is a Law Enforcement Agency. After the background check clears, the applicant will be appointed to the position. This background check includes interviews of employment and personal references; and FBI, California DOJ fingerprint clearances and DMV clearance(s). The selected applicant must complete a notarized waiver for access to their personal records. Completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy or Specialized Investigators Basic Course is required (Please attach certificate to application). And current California driver’s license are required. This is a sworn Peace Officer position pursuant to California Penal Code section 830.3(v). Successful candidate will undergo a complete background investigation, in accordance with the Commission on POST requirements.
