MD AASF (DOA)
Overview
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0483000 and is part of the MD AASF, National Guard. This is a career ladder position, WG-5/8/10. If selected at the WG-05 or WG-08 level, you may be promoted without further competition to the next level, up to the maximum promotion potential of WG-10, once requirements have been met and upon management request. This is a national guard Title 32 excepted service position and is part of the MD AASF, National Guard.
Duties
As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-5/8/10, you will perform the following duties:
Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft including pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
Diagnose and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces using a variety of methods, test equipment, visual checks and instruments to identify problem areas and determine required repairs.
Remove components and assemblies, repair or replace defective parts and components, and reassemble items into the aircraft. Install, align, and adjust major components and assemblies (e.g., engines, propellers/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems), and assist Specialists as required. Perform adjustments to related systems affected by repairs. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems.
Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launch and recover aircraft and perform inspections prior to takeoff. Inspect for oil, fuel, and hydraulic leaks, damaged lines, tires and loose panels.
May be required to perform additional duties such as firefighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. Perform other duties as assigned.
Conditions of employment
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Applicants must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the listed military grade. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. The incumbent must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (Lautenberg) of the Gun Control Act. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. Enlisted E1-E9 GENERAL EXPERIENCE
: Experience or training providing the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
:
WG-05
– Use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates ability to perform simpler and routine duties of the trade.
WG-07/08
– Use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience following detailed instructions in making routine, recurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components (e.g., jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems).
WG-09 and Above
– Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Ability to instruct lower graded mechanics and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls.
Quality of Experience
– Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Evaluation based on duties performed and possession of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties.
