Duties / Responsibilities
Test and troubleshoot aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment; diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs, including disassembly, repair, reassembly, and refinishing of blades/propellers.
Troubleshoot powertrain systems, diagnosing malfunctions and repairing components such as drive shafts, gear boxes, and mast assemblies.
Conduct nondestructive testing on rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to detect imperfections, using magnetic, dye, or electronic equipment.
Use power hoists, special slings, and balancing equipment to align and balance assembled propellers/rotor blades with chordwise and spanwise weight adjustments.
Make final adjustments after blade installation to balance, track, eliminate vibrations, and ensure correct RPM using tracking equipment and weight/trim linkages.
Perform operational checks of installed blades and sub‑systems during ground runs and, when designated, participate in aerial flights for maintenance test purposes.
Wear and utilize appropriate safety equipment and follow safety precautions.
Assist in maintenance assistance and instruction teams (MAIT) and contact teams throughout supported areas if required.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements National Guard membership is required. Applicants must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the appropriate military grade. Males born after 31 December 1959 must register for Selective Service.
Qualifications Military Grades : ENLISTED E4 AND ABOVE.
General Experience : Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, overhauling, modify, test, and service aircraft propeller assemblies and related components, with knowledge of hydraulic, electric, and mechanical controls.
Specialized Experience :
WG‑5: Ability to assemble/disassemble aircraft propeller assemblies, perform modifications per specifications, and use hand and power tools.
WG‑8: Same as WG‑5 with additional maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair experience.
WG‑10 and above: Experience performing maintenance overhaul, repair, testing, and troubleshooting for rotary‑wing aircraft propellers and assemblies. Ability to determine maintenance needs from work orders and inspection reports.
Education Transcripts or other documentation must be provided to support educational claims. Education will be evaluated based on the duties performed rather than rank alone.
