Position Overview
Job Title:
Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist (LEISS)
Agency:
Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Swanton Sector, Sector Intelligence Unit, Swanton, VT.
Salary:
$50,980 – $81,065 per year (GS‑7 to GS‑9, Step 1 to Step 10).
Appointment:
Permanent, Full‑time.
Responsibilities
Creating intelligence reports based on extrapolated data, research, and analysis.
Mining data and analyzing information using national databases to determine identity, citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with immigration laws.
Analyzing tactical surveillance video and imagery with sensor alerts and other resources to detect and identify threats and incursions entering the U.S. and relaying information to agents in real time.
Researching, analyzing, developing, and reporting on a variety of investigative and intelligence information to support ongoing investigations.
Interpreting and implementing immigration law, video surveillance and database analysis.
Qualifications GS‑7 Experience
Explain field surveillance, sensor alarms, and database findings to the field.
Gather, verify, and sort information requested by Border Patrol Agents and law enforcement organizations for accuracy and completeness.
Review various reports to ensure accuracy.
Inform supervisors of progress, potential controversies, and widespread impacts.
Direct and advise responding law enforcement officers using information derived from law enforcement information systems.
GS‑9 Experience
Prepare forensic evidence (audio and video) for court, establish chain of custody, and testify in court.
Identify and report criminal history information, federal, state, and local warrants, and driver’s license information.
Utilize technical manuals and reference materials for advanced law enforcement technology including remote video and sensor equipment.
Gather and analyze data from multiple databases to ensure accurate status determination.
Conditions of Employment
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must register with Selective Service.
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
