Senior Accountant
Senior Accountants are responsible for performing accounting or auditing duties involving financial statements, records, and reports, and may also supervise the accounting work for a small department or a division/section/unit in larger County departments. Under general direction, this class provides technical guidance and leadership to others performing clerical, paraprofessional, and/or professional accounting work, and is responsible for the most difficult accounting projects involving the analysis of budgetary, revenue, cost, and other financial records.
Current vacancies are located in the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk (ARCC) Department and in the Parks and Recreation Department. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies that may arise in various County of San Diego departments.
Interview and Hiring Process Job offers for selected candidates will be made shortly after the interview process is completed. Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork upon receipt of a job offer.
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.
Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.
Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background and Medical Screening, if applicable, or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting or a closely related field such as finance, business administration, or economics, with at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting from among the following courses: Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing.
At least three (3) years of professional accounting experience.
A California CPA Certificate will be considered as meeting the education requirement. A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Required Attachments Educational documents (college diploma(s), transcripts, and/or foreign studies equivalency report) must be attached to your application. Degree verification must be in an unalterable format.
