Position Summary
We are seeking a Statistical Quality Engineer to lead data-driven process improvement and scrap reduction initiatives across our aluminum extrusion and defense manufacturing operations. This role requires a highly analytical professional who can combine statistical rigor with practical, hands-on engagement to enhance process capability, reduce waste, and uphold the tight tolerances and quality standards our customers demand.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, validate, and analyze scrap, defect, and process data from extrusion and inspection systems; generate Pareto and trend analyses to identify and prioritize improvements.
Conduct capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) and monitor process stability to ensure consistent product quality.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to translate data insights into actionable process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives.
Lead and support root cause analyses using statistical and structured problem-solving methods (DOE, regression, ANOVA, 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D).
Develop and optimize automated and manual data collection methods, ensuring accuracy and repeatability through measurement system analysis (MSA) and gage R&R.
Support compliance with military and customer specifications, including documentation, traceability, and audit readiness.
Quantify and recommend resource allocation (time, engineering effort, capital) based on ROI from process improvement projects.
Create dashboards and data visualizations (Excel, Power BI) to communicate key quality metrics, risks, and progress to management.
Champion continuous improvement and ensure adherence to ISO, IATF, and customer quality requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field.
3+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, or data/statistical analysis (metalworking or defense/aerospace preferred).
Expertise in SPC, DOE, regression, ANOVA, hypothesis testing, and capability studies.
Proficiency in Minitab, JMP, or equivalent statistical software, plus advanced Excel/Power BI skills.
Familiarity with root cause analysis, FMEA, 8D, and other quality tools.
Strong communication skills; able to clearly translate complex data into actionable insights.
Hands-on, collaborative mindset comfortable engaging directly with operators, engineers, and leadership teams.
Experience working under military, defense, or aerospace compliance standards is a plus.
