Principal HCM Functional Consultant – Workday
Join Workday as a Principal HCM Functional Consultant and play a central role in implementing Workday’s HCM solutions for clients. This full‑time position focuses on configuration, testing, data conversion, and partnership with customers and internal teams.

About the Role As a Principal Functional Consultant, you will ensure the successful implementation of Workday’s product solutions. Responsibilities include:
Master at least two modules in the Workday HCM product suite (e.g., HCM Core, Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting).
Understand client business requirements, configure the Workday solution, create prototype systems, and assist clients in testing.
Help convert legacy data into Workday.
Support integration teams in configuring and testing integrations between Workday and third‑party solutions.
Apply Workday’s Implementation Methodology on all engagements.
Ensure clients leverage Workday’s proven solutions.
Mentor and share product knowledge with fellow consultants.
Basic Qualifications
Prior experience implementing Workday is a MUST.
Minimum of 7+ years implementing at least one of the following HCM solutions: HCM Core, Benefits, or Recruiting.
Previous consulting experience with a consulting/software company.
Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
Strong mentorship and partnership skills.
Ability to learn new technology quickly through instruction and self‑training.
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Other Qualifications
Workday HCM Certification a plus.
Excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor your style to diverse audiences.
Strong relationship management and influencing skills.
Strategic business consulting expertise, including market analysis, financial acumen, and strategic planning.
Comprehensive product knowledge of Workday HCM features, benefits, and market positioning.
Workday Pay Transparency Statement The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or role‑specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need.
Primary Location: USA.IL.Home Office Chicago Metro Base Pay Range: $147,400 USD – $221,100 USD Additional US Locations: $133,300 USD – $236,800 USD
