Area Supervisor – Ross Stores, Inc.
Overview Ross is an off‑price retail chain with over 2,200 stores and a strong track record of growth. The Area Supervisor works under Store Leadership, supervising specific store areas and performing manager‑on‑duty duties.
Key Responsibilities
Store Opening/Closing & Security
– Open and close the store, control building access, maintain EAS devices, secure cash and register areas, and ensure a safe environment.
Associate Leadership
– Supervise, coach, and schedule Associates; promote teamwork, recognize performance, and ensure compliance with dress code and policies.
Merchandising & Presentation
– Oversee receiving, processing, and merchandising of merchandise, including markdowns, stockroom organization, and merchandise placement on the sales floor.
Customer Experience
– Provide courteous service, handle customer inquiries, enforce loss‑prevention protocols, and maintain a clean, product‑rich environment.
Front‑End Operations
– Manage the cash register area, train Associates on cash handling, control break schedules, and ensure smooth transaction flow.
Fitting Room & Expense Management
– Maintain fitting rooms, audit tags, and manage shrink and add‑out control.
Administrative & Financial Duties
– Prepare cash pulls, bank deposits, payroll edits, and comply with store policies on refunds and approvals.
Health & Safety Compliance
– Conduct fire‑alarm tests, respond to after‑hours alerts, and maintain framework for emergency procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
Excellent verbal communication and fluency in English.
Prior customer‑service or supervisory experience preferred.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and basic retail mathematics.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal hours.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of the shift.
Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, carrying, reaching, and stooping.
Occasional lifting of >25 lb, and lifting >20 lb for stockroom duties.
Compensation Base pay range: $18.00–$18.50 per hour. Total compensation varies by location and experience.
