Travel:
Up to 80% of time (statewide, overnight, weekend)
Responsibilities
Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys of nursing homes and other long‑term care facilities.
Write inspection or survey reports detailing deficiencies, remedies, and narrative to support regulatory determinations.
Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to facility staff and agency stakeholders.
Conduct exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings.
Verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations during follow‑up visits.
Perform quality‑assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
Testify at hearings or in court proceedings when required.
Complete referrals for conduct as appropriate.
Available for emergency licensure action and on‑call duties for weather events or high‑priority situations.
Qualifications & Experience
Licensed social worker by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Must hold the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) certification or obtain it within 12 months of hire.
Experience in assessment and documentation of social service needs.
Preferred experience working as a social worker in an acute or long‑term health care setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
Work independently and exercise professional judgment.
Use computer for writing reports.
Integrate complex regulatory concepts and processes.
Multi‑task and manage competing priorities.
Travel & Work Hours 80% travel including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. Flexibility in work hours is required. Compressed workweek of four 10‑hour days possible.
Legal & Compliance All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check. Eligible to work in HHSC regulated facilities only after required disclosures. Eligible for E‑Verify; bring I‑9 documentation on first day. ADA accommodations available. Military, veterans encouraged to apply.
