Job Description The Registrar is responsible for the business aspect of the department as well as the patient focused care delivery within the department. Activities include: registration, insurance verification and notification, updating of financial and demographic information, reception and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff.

Answer telephones promptly and courteously. Direct calls to appropriate personnel or departments, take messages, and assure delivery of the same.

Collect and distribute patient referral information received from affiliated physicians.

Escort visitors and patients to appropriate areas; provide information to assist patient and/or visitors.

Distribute departmental reading material such as Emergency Department brochures, Health Care Proxy, and Patient Bill of Rights. Ensure such documents are readily available.

Register patients by updating or entering patient demographic, financial information, and emergency contact data into the computer system.

Verify demographic information and insurance coverage by interviewing patient/family member/friend. Generate patient charts and attach pertinent information such as Emergency Card, Medicaid threshold, and EMS sheet.

Review discharged patient charts for diagnosis, physician signature, dictation code, menu, and appropriate forms for completion.

Process specimens for laboratory by ensuring specimens are appropriately labeled and forms are completed and identification processes followed.

File charts and retrieve old records.

Retrieve completed charts, addressograph plate, and all supporting documents from patient treatment area.

Enter data into required computerized systems.

Maintain patient recall file.

Ensure all papers, forms, etc. are stamped appropriately.

Log patients on/in to the appropriate registration sheets/logs. Reconcile log books.

Obtain signatures for consent.

Make clinic appointments.

Other duties as assigned.

Shared Duties and Responsibilities Across Department

Greet visitors and answer telephones promptly and courteously. Escort visitors to appropriate area, when necessary. Provide information and make referrals when appropriate.

Answer call system and refer to appropriate staff.

Maintain a safe, clean and functional environment, including removing trash and bringing physical plant and equipment problems to the attention of managers.

Transport patients on stretchers or wheelchairs, as required.

Assist in interpreting, as required by current protocols.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED.

6-9 months of health care experience preferred.

Certified Application Counselor designation (NYS DOH) preferred if primary duties are related to financial assistance program.

Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSH.

Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.94 - $26.03 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
