Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic Paediatric Physiotherapist with experience in paediatric oncology to join the Acute Paediatric Physiotherapy team at Great North Children’s Hospital. This part‑time Band 7 post is a clinical lead role delivering highly specialised physiotherapy care to complex oncology patients in in‑patient, outpatient and clinic settings.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership and specialised physiotherapy care to paediatric oncology patients.
Deliver assessment and treatment for complex patients within inpatient, outpatient and day‑unit clinics.
Collaborate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and contribute to team meetings.
Maintain and promote own professional development; support CPD of colleagues.
Participate in on‑call, weekend and rota duties and be available for advisory support outside normal hours.
Provide specialised assessment and treatment for osteosarcoma, neuro‑oncology and peripheral neuropathies.
Deliver outpatient physiotherapy support in clinics and on the day unit.
Advise patients, families and multidisciplinary staff on specialised care and rehabilitation.
Develop and deliver specialist education and training to nursing, medical and physiotherapy staff.
Person Specification Qualifications
Degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy.
State registration with the Health Professions Council.
Evidence of CPD and relevant post‑graduate courses to MSc level.
Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (desirable).
Experience
Extensive postgraduate experience including senior physiotherapy in a paediatric setting.
Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
Experience teaching and delivering presentations.
Previous Band 7 experience (desirable).
Experience conducting audit projects (desirable).
Essential Skills and Knowledge
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to give and receive feedback, and to share knowledge within a team.
Strong organisational, time‑management, problem‑solving and prioritisation skills.
Team working ability and reflective practice.
Specialist clinical knowledge of paediatric oncology conditions and physiotherapy processes.
Specialist treatment skills relevant to paediatric oncology.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of NHS initiatives such as National Service Frameworks and Improving Working Lives.
Experience conducting research projects and building audit projects.
IT and specialist treatment skills relevant to the clinical group.
