Job Overview

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Band 6 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with experience in Occupational Health to join our dynamic and friendly multidisciplinary team. There is one full‑time permanent position and one part‑time permanent position available. This opportunity is also extended to Band 5 Physiotherapists who are interested in Occupational Health; successful candidates may develop specialist knowledge and progress to Band 6 within 12 months.

Main duties of the job

Independently manage a caseload of occupational health referrals with musculoskeletal conditions, via manager and self‑referral pathways.

Deliver telephone and face‑to‑face assessments and provide one‑to‑one gym‑based rehabilitation.

Prepare written management reports with workplace recommendations and return‑to‑work advice; conduct workplace assessments.

Influence employee health and wellbeing through health promotion and education initiatives.

Provide clinical education and supervision to Band 5 Physiotherapists and students; participate in in‑service training.

Band 6

Provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a complex musculoskeletal caseload in the occupational health setting.

Band 5 Development Post

Work as part of an integrated occupational health team managing a caseload of musculoskeletal referrals.

Build on skills and experience gained as a student or junior physiotherapist elsewhere.

Person specification

Essential criteria – Band 6

Degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy.

State registered with Health and Care Professions Council.

Experience as a junior/Band 5 physiotherapist.

Experience working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.

Advanced knowledge of medical conditions and their impact on functional abilities.

Sound knowledge of the physiotherapy process.

Organisation and time‑management skills.

Teamworking ability.

Clear written and oral communication skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical capability for moving and handling patients and applying manual therapy techniques.

Desirable criteria – Band 6

Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Knowledge of research and audit projects.

Knowledge of current NHS issues (e.g., NSF’s Improving Working Lives).

Previous experience in a Band 6 role.

Experience in occupational health.

Involvement in relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest groups.

IT skills.

Presentation skills.

Specialist treatment skills (e.g., manual therapy).

Essential criteria – Band 5 Development Post

Degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy.

State registered with Health and Care Professions Council.

Evidence of CPD.

Knowledge of medical conditions and functional ability impact.

Sound knowledge of the physiotherapy process.

Experience in an NHS setting.

Experience working with musculoskeletal problems.

Organisation and time‑management skills.

Teamworking ability.

IT skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical capability for moving, handling with wheelchairs and hoists, and manual therapy techniques.

Confidence to work with service users and MDT.

Desirable criteria – Band 5 Development Post

Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.

Knowledge of research and audit projects.

Experience in audit projects.

Understanding of the role of physiotherapy within an occupational health service.

Knowledge of current NHS issues.

Presentation skills.

Clinical reasoning and specialist treatment skills.

Car Driver (where applicable).
