Job Overview An exciting opportunity for an experienced SACT Nurse to progress into a Nurse Practitioner role. This senior position works clinically within Ward 36 to support, educate and develop staff nurses. It also includes participation in a nurse‑led bone marrow biopsy service; experience or willingness to train is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Lead education and training within Ward 36, supporting new and existing staff in oncology/haematology and SACT administration.

Provide direct clinical supervision and hands‑on clinical work to develop competence in all clinical skills and SACT administration.

Lead teaching and education sessions to the nursing team on a weekly basis.

Perform bone marrow biopsies in a nurse‑led clinic.

Teach and liaise with external providers/representatives to develop training for staff.

Utilise clinical skills to assess patients and provide non‑medical authorisation of blood products.

Other Aspects of the Role

Work within Ward 36 and the Ward 36 emergency area, operating 08:00‑19:00 seven days a week including bank holidays.

Participate in rotating shift patterns, including satellite unit in Cramlington and Saturday emergency unit.

Provide education and training to nursing team across the trust.

Essential Criteria

Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch).

Current NMC registration.

Diploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area; prepared to take degree level study.

Recognised specialist qualification in SACT administration.

Significant experience in Oncology and/or Haematology.

UKONS SACT Passport.

Significant experience administering SACT currently.

Practice Supervisor and Assessor/Mentorship.

IV Drug Competent.

Cannulation skills.

Venepuncture Skills.

CVC management skills.

Competence in bone marrow biopsies (aspirate and trephine) or willingness to undertake.

Non‑Medical Authorisation of blood products or willingness to undertake.

Desirable Criteria

Accredited SACT course.

Teaching qualification/course.

Evidence of audit/service improvement.

Leadership qualification/experience.

IRMER trained or willingness to undertake.

Clinical Skills Course or willingness to undertake.

Teaching qualification/course.

Accredited SACT course.

Experience as a non‑medical authoriser of blood products.
