Peer Recovery Specialist #4304
Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services seeks a Peer Recovery Specialist to provide person‑centered wellness focused support, engage individuals in treatment, and assist with recovery plans through lived‑experience sharing and advocacy.
Responsibilities Provides person‑centered wellness focused support to engage individuals in treatment and promote the use of their wellness recovery plan; shares his/her firsthand lived experiences with recovery to inspire hope, increase engagement in treatment and communities, and support individuals in articulating personal goals for wellness, recovery resiliency and self‑advocacy; possesses knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance disorders and can assist the individual in addressing symptoms using his/her individualized wellness plan; provides peer support, serves as an advocate, carries out wellness rehabilitation for mental health and substance use disorders, and promotes recovery, employment, education, health, and community integration; serves as a role model for personal recovery; delivers services including outreach, monitoring, advocacy, daily living support, crisis intervention, consultation to families, development of functional skills and appropriate behavior, transportation to implement the individual service plan, and similar functions; services may be rendered in group settings or on an individual basis; participates in special events, conferences, workshops, and trainings within the mental health system and community; works closely with staff, hospitals, and other community agencies and organizations; documents all contacts and activities in the individual's records.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be, or previously have been, a recipient of mental health or substance use disorder services and be well along in the recovery process
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Fingerprints, state and FBI criminal record reports, drug test, and CANIS report will be required upon request; our agency maintains a drug‑free workplace
Annual Salary Range $37,832 - $66,206
