Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer in the Office of Construction Administration, Safety, Traffic Management, and Storm Water Pollution Branch, the Transportation Engineer (Civil) performs a wide variety of professional engineering work in an office and/or field setting. Duty Statement . Working Conditions

Location: 1750 E. 4th Street, Santa Ana, CA 92705, Orange County - District 12/Division of Project Delivery. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. Work involves both office and field settings. Travel to field offices and construction sites may be required; occasional travel to other areas of the state for training. Exposure to dust, wind, moving traffic, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, chemicals, fumes, high noise, humidity, and weather conditions. Hard-hat and safety vest, and long pants required in the field. Indoors: contract administration, documentation, and communications. Ability to maintain alertness to the environment is critical. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. May be required to use a state vehicle and comply with department policies. This position may be eligible for telework at the Department's discretion, with in-person attendance as needed for operational needs. The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24- to 33-month rotation for eligible employees, including core and elective assignments. Rotations may involve long-term travel and locations throughout the state. On loan to other project delivery functions may be required during peak staffing needs. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (CIVIL) Construction Storm Water/Safety Engineer Classification: TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (CIVIL) salaries vary by range: $6,488.00 - $7,735.00 (A), $7,428.00 - $9,296.00 (B), $8,896.00 - $11,131.00 (C), $9,712.00 - $12,152.00 (D). New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Caltrans Vision: A thriving and connected California. Appointment to Range D (Resident Engineer) requires a valid Professional Engineer (Civil) license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle. The position requires continuous written and oral communication with the storm water coordinator, supervisor, resident engineers, construction field staff, environmental, design, and other units. Experience and knowledge to follow Federal, State, and local laws, policies, and procedures; ability to inspect construction projects and determine if they meet contract requirements, especially Water Pollution Control Requirements. Incumbent must provide high-quality service and maintain courteous relations. Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
