Elm Street, High Point, NC 27262 304 licensed beds Teaching Status: Interns, Residents, APPs, Nursing Students Chest Pain Center Accredited from American College of Cardiology Stroke Center designated by TJC: Primary Stroke Center Unit Information:
Beds: 4 Average Daily Census = 4
Minimum Years of Experience required? 1 with Medical Surgical with telemetry experience or progressive care experience Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
General medical patients requiring continuous monitoring of cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic and neurologic status having a NSTEMI or status post STEMI, cardiac interventional procedure, electrophysiology procedure, heart failure, post stroke General, Vascular, or immediate thoracic surgical patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory or hemodynamic support include pharmacological titration of cardiac anti-arrhythmic drips (amiodarone, cardizem, cardene, dobutamine, tridil, etc) Respiratory failure requiring medium or high flow oxygen devices or NIPPV
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions. CNA: Yes, ratio varies
Required Licensure & Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS – Resource Team requirement
Skills required:
Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac strip and rhythm interpretation, arterial lines, titration of drips, non-invasive ventilator care (BiPAP/CPAP), vascular lines, chest tubes or drains, post procedure site care – trans radial bands, femoral venous or arterial sheaths, post EP permanent pacemaker or ICD, post pulmonary artery thrombectomy (Prenum. a, Inari) Support within the Department:
CNA? Yes Receptionist/HUC? No Charge nurse?No Phlebotomy? Varies IV/VAT Team? No Resource Nurse? No (Charge Nurse from ICU or CTU serves as Resource) Rapid Response Team? Yes RT 24/7? Yes Hospitalist 24/7? Yes Telemetry monitoring? The RN is responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring including interpretation of the rhythm. Telemetry Techs are a resource.
Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC IV Pump: Baxter Med dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Philips Intellivue; all 18 rooms have an in room monitor Unit specific equipment: Arterial lines for invasive blood pressure monitoring interfaces with Philips monitors Floating: If yes, where? Float within the critical care division or Intermediate Care.
Orientation (facility and unit):
Orientation – 36 hours week 1 includes NTO and Online CBL (Healthstream) 12-hour departmental specific orientation shift with an RN Preceptor
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: every other On call? None Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays RTO: Resource Team approval Shift times: Days = 0700-1930; Nights = 1900-0730. Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks
