Area Supervisor

General Purpose
Lead a specific store area and serve as Manager on Duty during opening/closing.
Supervise associates, maintain a clean and friendly environment, and ensure merchandise shows the brand standard.
Execute and monitor all store operational processes required by Ross policy.
Essential Functions
Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Prioritize safety through vigilant observation and timely correction of unsafe conditions.
Manage building access, electronic surveillance, cash office security, and emergency procedures.
Test fire alarms and respond to after‑hours alarms.
Customer Service
Treat all customers and associates with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
Recognize associate performance through company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Model the Ross brand, maintain professional appearance, and enforce the dress code.
Keep store areas clean, merchandised, and manage daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure accurate recovery, sizing, markdown, and presentation of merchandise.
Handle receiving, processing, and shelving of all items, including non‑merchandise deliveries.
Maintain organized stockrooms and secure back‑stock.
Execute floor moves, signage, promotions, and necessary re‑wraps.
Loss Prevention
Lead loss‑prevention awareness and customer engagement.
Protect confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
Operate PVM and conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Implement best practices to reduce steps and maximize productivity.
Manage front‑end line pacing, associate training, break schedules, and equipment readiness.
Ensure accuracy of sales, security tagging, and war‑room procedures.
Fitting Rooms
Clean and maintain fit‑room areas and audit garment tags.
Process returns via security tagging and inventory procedures.
Administrative Duties (as assigned)
Process cash pulls, deposits, secure tills, voids, and payroll support.
Maintain front‑end controls and register procedures.
Complete additional store‑manager tasks.
Competencies
Work‑process management, business acumen, prioritization.
Talent building, collaboration, leading by example.
Effective communication, accountability & execution.
Qualifications & Special Skills
Excellent verbal communication; fluency in English.
Preferred prior customer‑service and supervisory experience.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Basic math skills for daily retail tasks.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use store equipment, stand/walk throughout the store, lift, push, pull, and climb equipment as required. Stockroom associates may need to lift more than 20 lbs. All duties comply with ADA and safety regulations.
