Job Overview Area Supervisor – Ross Stores, Inc. – Full‑time
The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times.
Core Responsibilities
Open and close the Store, supervise Associates, and maintain a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment.
Ensure proper merchandise presentation, clean work area, and safety of the building including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) device checks, and cash office security.
Execute and supervise Company operational processes, including daily trash removal, back‑stock control, and front‑end management.
Maintain a safe and secure shopping environment for customers and Associates, including customer safety, accident prevention, and emergency procedures.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism to all Customers, Associates, and other leaders.
Represent and support the Company brand at all times, ensuring compliance with the Company Dress Code.
Manage loss prevention awareness, including monitoring customer and Associate engagement, safeguarding confidential information, and maintaining the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
Teach and coach Associates on front‑end procedures, including the “Scan and Bag” best practice and cash register procedures.
Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Store Manager, such as cash pulls, bank deposits, front‑end control, payroll administration, and Associate scheduling compliance.
Qualifications
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English.
Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required; spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store; regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop; occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.; use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies. Associates who work Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.
