General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the store and for overall operations as Manager on Duty. Key duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a clean and merchandised environment, and ensuring safe and secure operations.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Ensures safety is the top priority, practicing safe behaviors at all times.

Maintains high awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to store leadership.

Secures building entry/exit, monitors EAS devices, protects cash office, manages armored carrier pick‑ups, and safeguards the register area.

Removes clutter and maintains clear egress to emergency exits.

Manages customer safety including accident prevention and reporting; follows emergency procedures.

Tests fire alarm systems on schedule and responds to after‑hours alarms when required.

Customer Service

Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect and professionalism.

Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognizes associates through company programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represents and supports the company brand at all times.

Maintains a professional appearance in line with the company dress code and ensures associates adhere to it.

Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard; handles daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through training, task assignment, and follow‑up.

Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks and processing all merchandise with urgency.

Handles receipt of non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.

Maintains cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.

Assists in placing merchandise on the sales floor once processed.

Secures and processes back‑stock per company policy and reduces loss due to damage.

Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines and supports department merchandising.

Conducts floor moves, promotions, and re‑wraps as needed.

Loss Prevention

Understands and follows the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintains a customer service presence on the sales floor.

Safeguards confidential, cash, and credit information; preserves merchandise integrity.

Maintains the Public View Monitor system.

Conducts “Code 50” package inspections and follows best practices to enhance productivity and minimize touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Enforces company best practices to maximize productivity while minimizing steps.

Maintains pace, energy, and presence at the front end to expedite customer wait times.

Trains and coaches associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.

Manages associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensures all equipment functions properly and supplies are stocked.

Executes go‑backs, confirms security tagging, and teaches the “Scan and Bag” best practice.

Fitting Rooms

Maintains cleanliness and order of fitting rooms.

Audits garment tags per company policy and ensures go‑back compliance.

Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager

Conducts cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.

Controls front‑end processes, including refund and purchase approvals, teller security, and void approvals.

Manages payroll administration, including punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll, and reporting.

Performs other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.

Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.

Ability to regularly bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.

Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.

Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.

For stockroom shifts: ability to push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Retail associates.

Stockroom leads (where applicable).
