General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who manages a specific area of the store and oversees overall operations while acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising Associates, maintaining merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Practices and promotes safety as the number one priority.
Maintains high awareness on the sales floor and reports unsafe conditions.
Secures the building, controls entrances/exits, manages EAS devices, cash office and armored carrier pick‑ups.
Ensures clear egress and conducts fire alarm tests; responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Protects customer safety by preventing accidents and following emergency procedures.
Customer Service
Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
Shows courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
Recognizes associates through company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
Maintains a professional appearance per company dress code and ensures associates comply.
Keeps store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standards.
Manages daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns follow company standards.
Receives merchandise trucks and processes all arrivals quickly.
Manages non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and stockroom organization.
Places merchandise on the sales floor as it is processed.
Secures and processes back‑stock according to policy.
Assists with floor moves, promotional signing, and re‑wraps.
Loss Prevention
Complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a visible presence.
Protects confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
Maintains the Public View Monitor and conducts package inspections.
Executes company best practices to minimize steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Ensures Associates meet company standards at the front end.
Manages line pace and customer wait times.
Trains associates on cash registers, shortages, and front‑end procedures.
Controls break schedules, equipment, supplies, and ensures go‑backs are processed.
Taught the “Scan and Bag” best practice and maintains merchandise salability.
Fitting Rooms
Maintains cleaning and compliance of fitting rooms.
Audits garment tags and ensures return compliance.
Ensures proper tagging, scanning, and security of returned merchandise.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
Conducts cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
Manages refund approval, associate purchase approval, and cash handling.
Handles payroll administration, punch edits, scheduling, and week‑end payroll.
Completes other duties as assigned.

Use of all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and computer
Standing, walking, and moving up to 100% of working time
Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, carrying, reaching, and stooping
Occasional ability to push, pull, and lift over 25 lbs
Use of janitorial equipment and rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies
State‑specific assignments may require different physical demands
