Mortgage Field Services Inspector – FAR Inspections
FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders.
Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial. The role is based in Reno, NV, and FAR Inspections has been in business for over nine years.
What is an Occupancy Verification? Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties. The purpose of the property inspection is to verify property occupancy and report on general condition using a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.
Inspections are performed at the county level. You will be responsible for completing all inspections in your county and, if necessary, splitting the county with another inspector for high‑volume counties.
Responsibilities
Complete inspections in 5–6 minutes per property.
Submit the inspection within 4 days after assignment.
Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in the mobile app.
Spend extended periods driving while making numerous stops during the assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with an internet connection.
Reliable vehicle with good gas mileage (you pay your own gas).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
Printer.
Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.
Pay and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies by county and volume. You will earn the equivalent of $30–$40 per hour.
Depending on the county’s urban or rural status, you can complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month working 2–30 hours per week. Volume and rate vary; lower volume counties have higher rates.
No mileage reimbursement beyond the flat fee per inspection.
