We're seeking an experienced Business Tax Director to join a well-established public accounting firm in Cranford, NJ. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll oversee complex tax engagements, mentor a team of tax professionals, and serve as a trusted advisor to a diverse portfolio of business clients. Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage tax compliance and consulting engagements for corporate, partnership, and S-corporation clients across multiple industries

Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable regulations

Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for tax planning, strategy, and advisory services

Provide proactive tax planning advice, including entity structure optimization, merger and acquisition support, and multi-state tax planning

Manage and mentor a team of senior associates, supervisors, and staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development

Review complex tax research and technical memoranda on specialized tax issues

Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements for clients

Collaborate with firm leadership on practice development, client retention, and business growth initiatives

Stay current on federal and state tax law changes and communicate impacts to clients and team members

Manage engagement budgets, billing, and realization to ensure profitability

Participate in client meetings, presentations, and new business development efforts

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's in Taxation preferred

CPA license required (or actively pursuing)

10+ years of progressive public accounting experience with a focus on business taxation

3+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role

Deep technical knowledge of federal and state tax regulations for corporations, partnerships, and pass-through entities

Proficiency with tax software (CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters, or similar platforms) and Microsoft Office Suite

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels

Proven track record of managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality work

Experience with tax provision (ASC 740) is a plus

Client-facing experience with strong business development and relationship management skills
