Position Summary
The employee(s) hired for this position will serve as part of a temporary pool of reserve Police Officers for UNC Asheville. The University Police mission is to contribute to and promote the greater mission of UNC Asheville by facilitating a safe, secure, and service‑oriented environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. Officers conduct law‑enforcement activities, including patrolling within the geographic jurisdiction, conducting criminal investigations, crime prevention, assisting motorists, parking/traffic control, and providing security at special events.

Minimum Education / Experience / Skills
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission, or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
Preferred Education / Experience / Skills
- Current possession of North Carolina BLET Certification.
- At least two years of campus law‑enforcement experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possession of a designated level of technical skill or knowledge in specific technical area(s) and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends.
- Ability to present information to individuals or groups, delivering presentations suited to the audience’s characteristics and needs.
- Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals, either verbally or in writing, ensuring understanding of the information and message; ability to listen and respond appropriately to others.
- Understanding of the organization’s mission, the function of the specific work unit, and how it works with other units to serve the customer/client, as well as the impact and implications of decisions on the community and other departments.
- Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and actively work to resolve issues.
- Ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternatives.
Work Schedule and Hours
This is a temporary, part‑time optional reserve officer position. Up to 40 hours per week based on departmental needs.

- Position requires certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year.
- Valid driver’s license required at the time of application; North Carolina driver’s license required prior to appointment.
- Selected candidates must undergo an extensive background investigation including psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug screen, and may be asked to demonstrate skills.
