Responsibilities
Accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where state and federal laws allow. Ensures efficient workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
Under pharmacist supervision, supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers within authorized company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Select, schedule, and develop pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management, including discipline and termination decisions.
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints, respond to requests in a timely manner, and answer non-clinical questions.
Develop relationships with customers to anticipate needs and proactively offer services to enhance the experience.
Assist the pharmacist in patient care: registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, verifying, and completing patient and physician calls where permitted.
Assist with healthcare services such as vaccines, health screenings, and other allowed services.
Delegate and assign non-clinical work; ensure tasks are completed on time and maintain workflow accountability.
Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies.
Coordinate and organize daily pharmacy activities, recommend staffing allocation, keep the pharmacy clean and stocked.
Manage inventory tasks that do not require pharmacist licensure; oversee annual inventory preparation.
Drive new technology/process roll‑outs, champion change, and engage the team in action planning.
Maintain equipment operation and maintenance; ensure security safeguards are in place.
Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during prescription dispensing activities.
Apply asset protection techniques; support diversion monitoring and report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager.
Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies and Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims; follow up with insurance companies and medical providers; participate in third‑party audits.
Assist Store and Pharmacy Managers in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
Manage Community Outreach Portal; coordinate and assign pharmacists to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partners.
Support performance management of technicians: discipline, termination, attendance, timeliness, engagement, and action planning.
Handle technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion.
Identify knowledge gaps among team members and provide training or learning modules.
Verify licensure, registration, and certification status of pharmacy staff; use Walgreens verification systems.
Ensure adherence to selection, recruitment, record retention, and training procedures per company policy and legal requirements.
Maintain and enhance pharmacy and healthcare knowledge; obtain required certifications and training.
Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and collaborate with Healthcare Supervisor as mentor and coach.
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers or key emails.
Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including 5‑minute meetings and weekly check‑ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
Minimum one year of pharmacy technician experience in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management or leadership experience.
Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on the last performance evaluation.
