Purpose The Physician Program Director (PPD) focuses on establishing formal Impella programs by building sustainable relationships with account stakeholders and key opinion leaders (KOLs) in hemodynamic support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive KOL engagement strategy aligned with brand and therapeutic area objectives.
Build sustainable relationships with designated accounts, health systems, KOLs, and stakeholders to formalize Impella programs and optimize outcomes.
Understand hospital market dynamics, uncover gaps in operational efficiency and patient care, and deploy tools to extend patient reach.
Present complex health economic information to diverse audiences in an engaging, credible, and accessible manner.
Advocate for heart recovery programs to health system administrators and engage hospital admins to gain project alignment.
Identify and develop new KOLs through customer visits, executive programs, regional education courses, and local initiatives.
Act as a corporate liaison between KOLs, IDNs, healthcare leaders, and the Abiomed executive team, collaborating cross‑functionally to align initiatives.
Communicate routinely with sales and leadership teams as outlined.
Qualifications
BA/BS required; MBS or MBA preferred.
Minimum 4 years of successful sales experience within Abiomed, or >7 years of related industry sales experience with proven success.
Prior KOL management experience or existing relationships in the geographic area.
Experience collaborating with C‑Suite hospital administrators and partnering with IDNs or system leaders.
Ability to travel overnight extensively (70% depending on geography).
Strong understanding of U.S. health‑care policy, payment systems, and reimbursement.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and proven relationship building at all organizational levels.
Strategic thinking coupled with tactical execution and strong project‑management skills.
Excellent written and oral communication, including presentation abilities.
Mastery of cardiac anatomy and clinical data.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Expected base pay range: $132,000 – $211,600. Eligible for a sales incentive compensation program and company car allowance.
Benefits
Vacation – 120 hours per calendar year
Sick time – 40 hours per calendar year (56 hours if residing in Washington)
Holiday pay – 13 days per calendar year (incl. floating holidays)
Work‑Personal‑Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of birth/adoption/foster care
Condolence Leave – 30 days for an immediate family member; 5 days for an extended family member
Caregiver Leave – 10 days
