Purpose
The
Physician Program Director
(PPD) focuses on establishing formal Impella programs through sustainable relationships with account stakeholders and key opinion leaders (KOLs) within the field of hemodynamic support. KOL Engagement
The PPD is responsible for developing and managing strategic relationships with KOLs, thought leaders, and subject matter experts to support the organization’s scientific, medical, and commercial goals, representing all aspects of Abiomed. Program Resourcing
The PPD will collaborate with hospitals and hospital administrators to identify program efficiencies through best practice implementation, protocol development, and workflow improvement, ensuring long-term program sustainability. Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive KOL engagement strategy aligned with brand and therapeutic area objectives. Develop sustainable relationships with designated accounts, health systems, key opinion leaders, and stakeholders to formalize Impella programs and optimize outcomes. Understand hospital market dynamics, uncover gaps in operational efficiency and patient care, and deploy appropriate tools. Present complex health economic information to diverse groups in an engaging and credible manner. Advocate on behalf of heart recovery programs to health system administration and engage hospital administrators to gain alignment. Identify and develop emerging KOLs through customer visits, executive programs, regional education courses, and local programs. Serve as a corporate liaison between KOLs, IDNs, healthcare system leaders, and Abiomed’s executive team, collaborating cross‑functionally. Communicate routinely with all members of the sales and leadership team as outlined. Qualifications
BA/BS required; MBS or MBA preferred. 4+ years of sales experience within Abiomed OR >7 years of related industry sales experience. Prior KOL management experience or existing relationships in geographic area. Experience working collaboratively with C‑Suite hospital administrators. Experience partnering with leaders of IDNs or systems of care. Must be able to travel overnight extensively (70% depending on geography). Strong understanding of US health care policy and payment systems, including hospital and physician reimbursement. Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to influence business objectives. Ability to balance strategic thinking with detailed planning and execution. Demonstrated responsiveness, sense of urgency, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Benefits
