Nurse Practitioner Cancer Surgical Oncology GI Job Summary:

This Nurse Practitioner (NP) position will provide support to the Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgical Oncology outpatient clinical team, serving as an educator, advocate and care provider. The NP is responsible for the care, treatment, and well‑being of patients throughout the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NP will work closely with attending surgeons and with the Cancer Center’s medical and surgical oncology practices, including satellite and ancillary clinics, to provide comprehensive patient care. The NP will participate in projects to support clinical practice, program operations, and possibly research. Specific job duties will be reviewed annually based on volume and practice needs.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical care to GI surgical oncology patients in an outpatient setting.

Educate patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members about disease, treatment options, and supportive care.

Advocate for patients’ needs and preferences within the healthcare system.

Manage comprehensive patient care plans, including follow‑up, monitoring, and coordination with specialty teams.

Participate in projects to improve clinical practice and program operations, and engage in research activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

Graduate from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role.

Minimum of two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in GI or surgical oncology specialty.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) to five (5) years of GI surgical oncology experience.

Previous employment in a university medical center.

Ambulatory (outpatient) experience.

License and Certification

California driver’s license if required for position.

Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency, provided by the first day of work. Accepted certifications include Adult Outpatient (A‑GNP‑C, ANP‑C, FNP‑C, GNP‑C, AGPCNP‑BC, ANP‑BC, FNP‑BC, GNP‑BC, ACNP‑BC, AGACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, ACNPC).

Current and active RN and NP licenses in California.

Completion of a BRN‑recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration with schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address.

Enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by the first clinical day; CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS).

State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice at UCSF Medical Center.

Salary and Benefits Salary range: $100.48 – $130.31 per hour (hourly rate). Final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy and may be influenced by experience and internal equity. Complete information on benefits can be found at

Location and Work Style San Francisco, CA – Mission Bay campus. Full‑time, fully on‑site with a 10‑hour day shift (Monday‑Friday).
