The Hydropower US HSE Manager leads the implementation of the ANDRITZ HSE Program across our HUS operations, covering three main areas: Hydro construction projects, manufacturing shop in Spokane, and the Charlotte office. This includes managing the team of HSE Officers - currently 7 HSO professionals. Under the guidance of the Hydropower North America HSE Director, and following the ANDRITZ “Committed to No Harm” vision, they will be empowered to create a strong safety culture within the organization, ensure compliance to legal and customer requirements, and contribute to project success by ensuring safety across sites.
Responsibilities
Effectively communicate company and division Health & Safety vision, expectations, strategies, and initiatives to assigned personnel at facilities.
Ensure each facility and project has prioritized (risk-based), actionable strategies and that effective metrics are utilized to monitor progress and performance.
In collaboration with the project manager, draw up a successful HSE concept for projects and provide adequate HSE resources to support the effective implementation of prevention plans.
Establish trust with stakeholders and become the main point of contact for customer management and leadership regarding HSE topics.
Challenge and coach facility personnel on current safety culture, commitment, ownership, risk tolerance, practices, and conditions; check for understanding and buy‑in through observation, questioning, and discussion.
Coach, develop, and evaluate performance of facility personnel identified as compliance standard owners in areas of risk and compliance decision‑making, program and management system development/improvement, project management, and case management.
Develop and use risk assessment methods and tools for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards.
Assess and improve employee ability to identify and manage risk and execute critical safe work practices.
Manage processes in place to effectively meet compliance requirements.
Facilitate the development and use of effective training, change management, incident investigation, and self‑assessment processes.
Work with government agencies at all levels to ensure safety compliance.
Possess a working extensive knowledge of OSHA, etc.
Manage, track, and report on issues, initiatives/projects, incidents, assessments/audits, and safety performance for facility.
Utilize training and development plans to grow personal H&S knowledge, skills and ownership.
Frequent communication with Hydropower North America HSE Director (remote).
Travel estimated up to 50 %.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related degree.
5 years working experience in a construction setting as a safety representative (Hydropower at a Federal Government site an asset).
CSP or CIH, or demonstrated progress towards achieving certification.
Must hold valid required construction safety certifications & trainings (i.e. OSHA 30, 40h Hazpower, confined space, working at height, lifting, electrical safety, LOTO, first aid).
Demonstrated experience in leading culture change and developing/implementing management systems.
Demonstrated strength in and passion for people management.
Detail oriented with ability to prioritize work and manage multiple simultaneous activities.
Must be assertive and highly proactive with the ability to adhere to strict reporting deadlines.
Must be able to manage employees remotely and at multiple sites.
