Summary
The Clinical Staff Nurse functions as a champion of quality patient care and professional caregiver who demonstrates critical thinking skills and scientific judgment in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient. The CSN is responsible to perform at a competent level of nursing and consistently demonstrates nursing process. These standards include: assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion and evaluation. The CSN is also responsible to hold the highest standards of professional performance, which include: ethics, cultural diversity, communication, collaboration, evidence based practice, nursing research, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. These standards of practice encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The CSN will function within the JHS CARE Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The CSN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver and coordinate patient care in collaboration with physicians and healthcare staff
Apply the nursing process to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care
Document patient care plans, observations, and interventions accurately
Maintain infection control standards and account for narcotics/emergency equipment
Identify and report significant patient findings; seek corrective action when needed
Supervise and provide functional direction to LPNs, CNAs, and MAs
Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned
Support staff orientation and ensure continuity of care through timely rounds
Uphold HIPAA compliance and demonstrate CARE values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise
Credentials & Requirements
Valid Florida RN license
American Heart Association BLS certification (required upon hire and maintained throughout employment)
Additional unit-specific life support certifications as applicable
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
1-3 years of related nursing experience
Verification of degree required for roles involving Point of Care testing in specialized units (OR, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology)
Competencies
Strong organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills
Effective communication in oral and written form
Ability to remain composed in stressful situations and exercise sound judgment
Compassionate, patient-centered approach that respects cultural diversity and individual needs
Clinical knowledge and ability to meet unit-specific competencies
Working Conditions
Extended standing/walking; ability to lift 21-50 lbs and move up to 100 lbs with assistance
Frequent computer use requiring visual acuity
Fast-paced environment with exposure to communicable diseases, medical gases, toxic substances, and other hospital-related hazards
PPE required when exposed to infectious environments
