CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION LEAD SPECIALIST (CLASS CODE 5283)

Advanced technical and administrative duties involved in collecting, documenting, and preserving evidence at a crime scene; and related work as required.
Shift, weekend, and holiday work is required.
Qualifications
High School graduation or G.E.D.*
Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least twelve credit hours in Criminal Justice, Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, or a closely related scientific field. Official transcripts must be presented to the New Orleans Civil Service Department within two (2) weeks of application.
Valid Driver’s License.*
Four (4) years of full-time experience in crime scene investigation.
Note:
Additional crime scene investigator experience may substitute for the required college credit at the rate of one (1) year of related experience equals 30 hours (one year) of college credits. An associate’s degree is preferred.
* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify driver’s license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
This position requires a one-year probationary period.
A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%, will be considered for qualification purposes; however credit on the rating will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
Note:
The Police Department will conduct a background investigation which will include a voice stress test, a urinalysis to detect usage of illegal narcotic substances, and a check of arrest and conviction record.
This is an original entrance examination.
