Data Center PM Chief Engineer – Amazon Web Services (AWS) Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and ensure continuous access to the services our customers rely on.

Description We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables in the supply chain and seek talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and operations managers, collaborating with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety, security, and scalable capacity at the lowest cost.

Key Responsibilities This position requires you to be an energetic self‑starter who will be provided overall direction for the facility. It is expected that you will schedule and perform work to help meet our goals. The role also requires a strong mechanical and electrical background and the ability to build solid working relationships with internal and external groups.

Operate independently with limited direct management.

Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues.

Oversee routine and emergency services for critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, and building monitoring.

Drive projects with moderate complexity.

Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.

Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with the Facility Manager to set team culture.

Lead drills that are building‑specific, identify improvement areas, and work with the FM to address weaknesses.

Create and deploy compliance standards for new practices among Engineering Operations Technicians and vendor support teams.

Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.

Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.

Assist in design and build‑out of new facilities as needed.

Coordinate projects with IT managers and other leaders to manage capacity, safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls – second‑level escalation for Data Center facilities issues.

Work outside normal business hours for routine maintenance as required.

Travel may be required.

Walk job sites in uneven terrain, maintain balance, and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.

Regularly lift up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.

Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or touch, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.

3+ years of data center or mission‑critical facility experience.

Technical training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical).

Preferred Qualifications

4+ years of data center engineering experience.

Associate's degree or above, or Bachelor's degree.

Experience leading and managing a team.

Experience in electrical, mechanical, or controls fields.

Compensation for this position ranges from $83,100 to $185,000 per year, depending on geographic market and experience. Additional benefits may include equity, sign‑on payments, and a comprehensive benefits package.
