About the Role The Department of Health is hiring a Public Health Nurse (PHN) to work at either the PHN 2 or PHN 3 level. The flex position can be based at the Ketchikan Public Health Center and is responsible for delivering a wide range of community health services, promoting wellness, and protecting Alaska communities.

Responsibilities

Conduct health screenings and provide preventive care to individuals, families, and communities.

Monitor and treat infectious diseases.

Perform community health assessments and lead improvement initiatives.

For PHN 2: work independently to deliver services and support public health objectives.

For PHN 3: provide expert-level care, contribute to quality improvement efforts, and travel periodically to outlying communities.

Working Environment The position is located at the Ketchikan Public Health Center, 605 Gateway Court. Ketchikan is in the panhandle of Southeast Alaska, 90 minutes by air from Seattle.

Who We Are Looking For

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving – Use logical, systematic approaches to address problems and opportunities.

Valid Alaska Registered Nursing License, Driver’s License, CPR Certification, and willingness to travel to remote areas via boat or small aircraft.

Minimum Qualifications Public Health Nurse 2

Registered Nurse license in Alaska.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Public Health Nurse 3

Registered Nurse license in Alaska.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Competencies in public health, decision making, interpersonal skills, partnering, and analysis/assessment.

Advanced post‑secondary education or professional experience in public health, community health, or related fields.

Required Documents at Interview

Current Registered Nurse License.

Three professional references with current contact information.

Academic transcripts (unofficial are acceptable; institution name/URL must be listed).

Required Documents Prior to Employment

Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Mumps, Measles, Rubella, and Varicella immunizations.

Proof of Hepatitis B immunity or signed declination.

Annual influenza vaccination or signed declination.

Proof of tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.

Current driver’s license.

Current Alaska Registered Nurse License upon employment.
