USA Underwriters Insurance Company
USA Underwriters Insurance Company, a rapidly growing and financially stable property and casualty insurer domiciled in Michigan, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial and accounting operations of our insurance carrier. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance and offers the opportunity to work closely with executives and play a pivotal role in driving the company’s success.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger Management: Oversee all aspects of the general ledger in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles, including preparing and approving journal entries, analysis, and reconciliations
Treasury Oversight/Cash Optimization: Monitor and manage incoming and outgoing cash to ensure optimal movement of funds between operating cash and investments, maximizing investment income
Financial Reporting: Prepare the quarterly and annual “yellow book” statutory financial statements and annual Risk Based Capital (“RBC”) filed with MI Department of Insurance
Audit Support: Support the audit process by responding to inquiries and providing documentation as requested
Internal Controls: Constantly assess risk and develop and monitor internal controls to minimize financial risk and safeguard assets effectively
Regulatory Compliance: Be proactive in ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are met timely
Project Management: Balance daily responsibilities with company projects and strategic initiatives as they arise
Team Contribution: Manage direct report and execute other duties aligned with the role of an accounting professional
Key Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA highly preferred
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience; statutory insurance accounting experience strongly preferred
Reinsurance and investments accounting experience preferred
Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook. Clearwater and Sage Intacct experience a plus
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
