POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Accounting Supervisor and broader finance team by delivering accurate, timely, and dependable financial services. This position is responsible for core accounting functions, including month-end close activities, economic analysis, payroll processing, and maintenance of key general ledger accounts and fixed assets. This staff accountant also supports annual audits and ensures adherence to internal controls, policies, and regulatory standards. With strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, this role helps maintain the integrity of financial reporting and supports informed decision-making across the organization. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Month-End Close and Financial Reporting
Assist with month-end financial close, including preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations. Reconcile and analyze key general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Prepare detailed monthly actual-versus-budget variance reports and provide explanations as needed. Maintain and strengthen internal controls by adhering to established policies and offering suggestions to improve control and efficiency. Audit and Compliance Support
Assist with annual financial statement audits, retirement plan audits, and workers’ compensation audits by preparing accurate, timely supporting schedules and documentation. Ensure documentation and audit trails are organized, complete, and readily accessible. Fixed Assets and Inventory
Track and maintain the fixed asset ledger, including capitalization, disposals, and depreciation entries. Record all fixed asset-related transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting standards. Assist with year-end physical inventory counts and related reconciliations. Payroll and Benefits Administration
Perform all necessary procedures and system applications to process the weekly payroll cycle accurately and on schedule. Prepare weekly payroll-related reports as needed for management and accounting. Submit weekly 401(k) contributions and loan payments to the 401(k) plan administrator in a timely manner. Respond to payroll-related questions from employees and local financial institutions, ensuring professional and timely customer service. Continuous Improvement and Customer Focus
Deliver accurate, reliable work to support both internal and external customer satisfaction. Use Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in accounting and payroll processes (e.g., rework, delays, unnecessary motion, and inefficient workflows). Apply end-to-end process thinking, looking for root causes of issues and participating in individual or team-based improvement initiatives. Other

Consistently meeting month-end closing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy. Clean audit opinions and minimal audit findings related to assigned areas. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
Associate’s degree in Business required. 2+ years of accounting experience. Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision. Prior payroll experience a plus; experience with ADP is preferred. Organized and detail oriented with strong follow-through. Strong work ethic and professional demeanor. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Basic understanding of ERP systems; experience with Epicor is a plus. Intermediate proficiency with Excel (e.g., formulas, lookups, pivot tables). Self-starter and team player with a positive attitude, able to collaborate effectively within the department and across the company.
