Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily, 25-50 frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?: No Shift Schedule

Must work two 12-hour shifts 7:00pm-7:30am each Friday, Saturday, or Sunday as part of the Weekend Premium Pay (WEPP) plan, and occasionally some holidays. Job Summary

Registered Nurses on the Neuroscience Progressive Care unit at UK Chandler Hospital provide progressive neurological and neurosurgical care for adult patients 15+ years old. Patient conditions include ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, isolated head trauma, spinal cord injury, spine surgery, and other brain and spinal cord diseases. The RN is part of the acute care team, monitoring and treating patient complications. Primary responsibilities: provide total, comprehensive, continuous, patient-centered care—assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; deliver direct patient care; ensure patient satisfaction; train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants); and adhere to University policies and federal, state, local regulations. Supports collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and patient outcomes. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs and Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns framework, Swanson’s Caring model. Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills. Basic computer navigation and working knowledge of the internet. Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians. Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills. Highly motivated, proactive, confident in advocating for patients and families. Strong teamwork, independent work capability, and exceptional technical skills. Preferred Education / Experience
