Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license that is in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical and Shift Requirements Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily, 25–50 pounds frequently, stand, walk, sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
Shift
Must work two 12‑hour shifts weekly from 7:00 AM–7:30 PM Saturdays and Sundays; Weekend Premium Plan (WEPP); some holidays.
Job Summary and Responsibilities Registered nurses in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at UK Chandler Hospital provide intensive neurological and neurosurgical care for adult patients 15 + years of age. Patient conditions include isolated head trauma, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, spinal cord injury, anoxic brain injuries and other brain/spinal cord diseases. The RN serves as a critical team component; responsible for close hemodynamic, medication and ventilator monitoring and treatment of patient complications related to neurological injury.
Primary responsibilities: provide total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care—assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, development, evaluation of the comprehensive nursing plan; deliver direct patient care; ensure patient satisfaction; train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians; adhere to University policies, federal, state and local regulations; collaborate with physicians to increase communication and enhance patient outcomes.

Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, Swanson’s Caring model.
Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
Basic computer navigation and internet working knowledge.
Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, co‑workers, physicians.
Strong organizational, prioritization, delegation skills.
Highly motivated, proactive, confident in patient advocacy.
Excellent technical skills; proven team, independent work.
