Job Description American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a high-acuity Progressive Care Oncology Unit with night shifts and strong progressive care skills required.
Responsibilities
Work in a high-acuity Progressive Care Oncology Unit within a hospital setting
Unit consists of 36 beds, over 24 dedicated to PCU level with some med surg cases
Patient population includes adult oncology, solid tumors, orthopedic and thoracic oncology, with rare pediatric cases
Staff patient ratios are 1:4-5 for med surg telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
Uses B450 monitors (GE telemetry system), Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanner, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation
Night shifts (3x12 hours, 19:00 to 07:30), D/N shift option available
Self-scheduling requests allowed with schedule balanced by leadership
Orientation includes one week of Monday-Friday days followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with preceptor
Floating required to units of similar or lower acuity
Role focuses on caring for oncology patients with progressive care needs and strong infection prevention
Skills in blood product administration, tracheostomy management, heparin protocols, and management of cardiac drips are required
Pediatric patient care is managed by permanent staff; agency RNs are not expected to care for pediatric patients
Orientation and mentorship provided by a dedicated preceptor during the first two weeks
Weekends are variable and holiday coverage is expected per unit need
Locals and travelers are paid at the same rate
First-time travelers are welcome
Candidates currently employed at any Ohio State University hospital system are ineligible
Requirements
Active OH or compact RN license in hand
Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
Minimum of 2 years high-acuity PCU experience required
Oncology experience preferred but not required
Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and manage rapid response
Experience with central line, peripheral line, PICC management, and starting IVs
Two professional references required, including one from a supervisor or manager
Must complete Ohio fingerprinting process immediately upon contract signing
Candidates who were former employees must have at least 6 months gap from previous employment with the facility
