7PM – 7:30AM, with possible weekends, holidays and call; must work a minimum of 96 to 216 hours per six-weeks period.

Required Education & Experience Education:

ADN Experience:

No experience required.

Licenses & Certifications Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing. Must hold American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment.

Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Exposure may include communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Job Summary The Progressive Care Per Diem pool provides comprehensive, continuous, patient-centered care for Progressive/Universal patients at UK Healthcare Enterprise locations (Samaritan and Chandler). Payment is per shift, with higher pay for night shift and weekend coverage.

Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care.

Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.

Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).

Adhere to University policies, federal, state, and local regulations.

Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model.

Superb direct patient care and critical-thinking skills.

Basic computer navigation and working knowledge of the internet.

Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.

Highly motivated, proactive, and confident in advocating for patients and families.

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Exceptional technical skills and proven teamwork.

Preferred Education & Experience BSN plus at least 18 months of progressive care RN experience.
