Maintenance Manager – Frozen Food Manufacturing (Vernon, CA)

Position Summary The Maintenance Manager leads and oversees all mechanical, electrical, controls, and utility‑related operations across our frozen food production facility. This role is responsible for driving equipment reliability, improving safety performance, strengthening preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and executing capital projects that support operational excellence.
The ideal candidate has strong electrical and controls troubleshooting ability, experience in USDA‑regulated food manufacturing, familiarity with ammonia refrigeration and frozen operations, and the leadership skills to build a disciplined, high‑performing maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and develop a multi‑skilled maintenance team to ensure safe, timely repairs and minimal downtime
Actively participate on the production floor troubleshooting equipment issues (mechanical, electrical, and controls)
Oversee maintenance of automated production lines including ovens, spiral freezers, conveyors, kettles, and horizontal form‑and‑seal packaging equipment
Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurring failures
Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, OSHA, environmental, and food safety requirements
Support and lead maintenance activities during production, changeovers, and sanitation windows
Plan and execute capital projects, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements
Maintain CMMS for work orders, PMs, asset history, and downtime tracking
Partner closely with Production, QA, Sanitation, and Engineering teams to meet daily production goals
Manage labor planning, spare parts inventory, contractor coordination, and maintenance budgets
Champion safety, including LOTO, PPE, confined space, and refrigeration safety
Provide leadership coverage for off‑shift or weekend PMs as required
Required Qualifications
5+ years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in food manufacturing (USDA/FDA regulated)
Strong hands‑on troubleshooting skills in:
Electrical systems (480V, motor controls, panels)
PLC‑controlled equipment
Pneumatics and hydraulics
Experience working in frozen or cold‑chain operations strongly preferred
Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems (preferred, not required)
Experience supporting horizontal form‑and‑seal packaging equipment
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or scheduled PM shutdowns
Strong communication and leadership skills; bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred
Preferred Technical Experience
PLC troubleshooting (Allen‑Bradley preferred)
VFDs, sensors, encoders, and industrial controls
Welding and basic fabrication (MIG/TIG preferred)
Spiral freezers, ovens, kettles, conveyors
CMMS platforms (MP2, Fiix, eMaint, SAP PM, or similar)
Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Reliability‑Centered Maintenance
Industrial safety and LOTO compliance
