Responsibilities This position will serve as the Safety Officer for the Minnesota Veterans Home–Fergus Falls to implement, monitor and evaluate safety and health programs. The role is part‑time with primarily day‑shift hours, totaling approximately 64 hours per two‑week pay period. The position is initially eligible for full employer contribution toward health and dental insurance benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety, demonstrating proficiency in at least two of the following: maintaining and auditing safety programs; workers’ compensation; promoting health and wellness programs; occupational health and safety regulations.

A bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience.

An associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for six months of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Three or more years in the Environmental Health and Safety field.

Knowledge of CMS, federal Veterans Administration, and/or MN Department of Health regulations for healthcare settings.

Experience working in a healthcare or long‑term care facility.

Experience conducting inspections, determining compliance, and enforcing OSHA regulations.

Knowledge of security camera systems and emergency preparedness.

Additional Requirements

A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on finalists; finalists must pass the DHS background check.

A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening or chest x‑ray is required prior to employment.

Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists.
