Transportation Engineer (Civil) , a permanent, full‑time role located in San Diego County, CA. The position offers a competitive salary range of $6,488 to $12,152 per month and a hybrid work arrangement with occasional travel.

Job Overview The incumbent works under the District Local Assistance Engineer and a Senior Transportation Engineer to administer and manage State and Federal‑Aid funding programs. Responsibilities include providing engineering technical assistance, procedural and program guidance, and funds management on locally‑administered State and Federal‑Aid projects. The engineer manages Local Assistance databases to ensure project information is current and accurate, and coordinates timely reviews of project information with other functional departments.

Key Responsibilities

Administer State and Federal‑Aid funding programs in coordination with Local Agencies, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and San Diego Association of Governments.

Provide engineering technical assistance and procedural guidance on local‑administered projects.

Manage Local Assistance databases and ensure accurate, up‑to‑date project information.

Coordinate project reviews with District headquarters, Federal Highway Administration, and other functional departments.

Assist with project and program management support to local agencies.

Qualifications

Valid California civil engineer registration issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists required for Range D.

Pass the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam and meet Minimum Qualifications under Pattern II if required.

Solid understanding of State and Federal‑Aid program processes, database management, and project coordination.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Valid driver’s license required for operating State owned or leased vehicles.
