Base Pay Range $6,488.00 - $7,735.00 A $7,428.00 - $9,296.00 B $8,896.00 - $11,131.00 C $9,712.00 - $12,152.00 D

New state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, when applicable.

Caltrans – Division of Engineering Services (DES), Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS)

Duties and Responsibilities The TE Civil will act as a Materials Engineering and Testing Services Representative (METS Rep.) or Assistant METS Representative (AMR). Responsibilities include:

Perform professional engineering work on highway construction projects involving bridges, roadways, buildings, and other infrastructure.

Represent METS on ongoing projects to provide materials engineering expertise and ensure compliance with contract documents during all project phases.

Work in both office and field settings, traveling to job sites and manufacturer facilities.

Travel up to 25% out of state and operate a valid driver’s license for official business.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications for this classification. Minimum qualifications typically include:

Undergraduate degree in civil or related engineering discipline.

ABET‑accredited engineering program.

State of California civil license or eligibility to obtain one.

Experience in materials engineering, testing, and compliance with contract documents.

Special Requirements Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required. A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be typed, no longer than one page, single‑spaced, using 12‑point font. Resumes are optional.
