Job Overview The Access Coordinator works under supervision and provides comprehensive support for the patient care activities. Responsibilities include greeting, answering telephones, coordinating appointments, referrals, tests and procedures, checking in/out patients, collecting payments, issuing receipts, verifying insurance coverage and responding to third‑party payer requirements.

Responsibilities

Meet, greet, and assist the public; answer telephones.

Coordinate appointments, referrals, consults, tests, and procedures, including imaging (MRI, CT) and diagnostic tests.

Check‑in and register patients, check‑out patients, and collect payments.

Issue receipts, verify insurance coverage, and respond to third‑party payer requirements.

Obtain prior authorizations for procedures, imaging, or specialist referrals.

Communicate with insurance companies and patients regarding coverage issues or delays.

Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and clinical teams.

Provide patients with instructions related to appointments, procedures, or referrals.

Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years of customer service or healthcare experience.

Ability to perform all duties of Access Coordinator levels I and II.

Basic proficiency with computers and data entry (MS Office preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Health‑Care Access Associate (CHAA) certification.

Experience with external radiology testing.

Knowledge of CPT codes and/or medical terminology.

Three years of experience in registration, billing, or scheduling in a healthcare environment.

Additional Job Requirements

Schedule patient appointments, follow‑ups, and diagnostic imaging.

Coordinate pre‑op and post‑op visits for neurosurgery or other procedures.

Work with providers to manage complex care plans across specialties.

Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility; obtain prior authorizations.

Communicate with insurance companies regarding coverage issues or delays.

Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and clinical teams.

Provide patients with instructions related to appointments, procedures, or referrals.

Perform other duties as needed.
