Job Description This is a Federal Work Study position at Norman Firehouse Art Center (FAC) in Norman, OK. The FAC enriches the community by offering visual arts education, experiences, and exhibitions. Since 1970, FAC has served with classes in ceramics, sculpture, painting, etc., in well‑equipped classrooms.
The Education Assistant will assist in outreach, accessibility, and educational programs. They will support the Firehouse's mission by delivering quality customer service and information about the organization. The successful applicant will interface with the public and faculty, support staff through administrative duties related to gallery operations, and gain experience for a career in museum education, non‑profit management, and the arts.
Education Assistant Job Duties
First point of contact with guests and students; professional demeanor and hospitality required.
Assist the Studio and Programs Manager with educational needs.
Assist faculty with accessibility and educational programs as needed.
Open and close the building, gallery, and gift shop.
Process sales transactions accurately.
Follow financial procedures to close out the day’s receipts and provide a report to staff.
Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing art, record sales, and maintain inventory.
Answer the phone, screen calls, and record accurate messages when needed.
Perform clerical tasks including data entry, filing, document creation, and spreadsheet management.
Answer questions about classes offered.
Perform light housekeeping duties: straighten and dust displays as needed.
Communicate Firehouse’s programs accurately and answer public questions on upcoming events and programs.
Job Requirements Required Education : Must be currently enrolled in the Spring semester as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status and work study status.
Must attach Spring 2026 ONE class schedule.
Must have received and accepted a work study award in ONE for Spring 2026 semester.

Able to maintain good records of incoming and outgoing art.
Professional appearance.
Able to multi‑task and handle busy retail periods.
Community‑minded and passionate about art.
Physical requirements: Able to lift up to 40 lbs., bending and lifting items.
Department Preferences :
Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing student, or earning a bachelor’s degree in similar field.
Preferred candidates pursuing a degree in non‑profit management, art, or education focused careers.
Previous non‑profit or arts/education related experience.
Schedule flexibility to accommodate operational hours and weekend events.
Special Instructions : If you are selected as a final candidate, you will be subject to The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus Tuberculosis Testing policy.
