Summary
Responsible for leading mechanics in the repair and maintenance of all City vehicles and equipment. Also, responsible for working on heavy equipment for various City departments. Pay Range:
$19.37 - $24.96 (Depending on qualifications or experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance on City vehicles. Oversee repairs and maintenance performed by mechanics. Diagnose and repair city vehicles and equipment. Order necessary parts as needed. Maintain a clean and orderly Fleet Shop. Act as supervisor in the absence of the Fleet Services Supervisor. Respond to road calls. May diagnose and repair diesel engines. Minimum Qualifications
1 year advanced study past the high school level 5 years related experience 3 ASE Certifications or able to obtain within 6 months of hire Must own basic hand and air tools Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications
Education/Experience: 5-7 years experience in automotive, heavy equipment and diesel diagnosis and repair Advance training in automotive, diesel and heavy equipment mechanics Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of automotive repair and diagnostics Comprehensive knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment mechanics Comprehensive knowledge of fleet software and electrical diagnostics Skill in utilizing Shop Key software Skill in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment Skill in prioritizing and meeting deadlines Skill in hydraulic system repair Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class A Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire 3 ASE Certifications or documented training/credentials required 3 additional ASE certifications within 2 years of hire or Master Certification in automotive or diesel Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works in a fleet shop environment; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Occasional outside work.
