The Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Diesel Technician I/II, the Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician is considered the lead on jobsites by customers and technicians and functions as a consultant on the customer’s behalf. A successful Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
DUTIES Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy expectations.
Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards, upload pictures and parts used, and record findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
Operate with a high degree of independence and manage one’s own daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings and notes.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. Candidates may have a different combination such as a degree/certification beyond a high school diploma or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
OEM training and certifications are preferred.
Participate in and complete all in‑company required training.
This position follows DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Candidate must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current, valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; a card with four (4) months or less of validity requires a DOT physical.
Due to interstate operating authority regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years old.
Safe driver required; valid driver’s license required. Candidate must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
