Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. May be exposed to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments. Shift
Three 12‑hour shifts per week from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am; also required to work some weekends and holidays. Job Summary
Registered nurses in the Pediatric Acute Care Unit at Kentucky Children’s Hospital provide care for children from infants to 18 years old. Patient conditions include recovery from general medical surgical procedures, renal transplant surgery, cardio‑thoracic surgery, and medical conditions such as epilepsy, acute and chronic renal disease, infectious disease, cancer and blood disorders, asthma, and diabetes. The 22‑bed unit specializes in hematology/oncology and medical‑surgical pediatric patients. Primary responsibilities require delivering total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care, documenting and implementing nursing plans, teaching patients and families, and delegating duties to nursing assistants while adhering to university policies, federal, state, and local regulations. The environment promotes collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities
Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care. Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction. Train and delegate duties for nursing care technicians (nursing assistant). Adhere to University policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs and Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework. Superb direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills. Basic computer navigation and internet skills. Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians. Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills. Pro‑active, motivated, and confident advocacy for patients. Supervisory Responsibilities
No Preferred Education / Experience
