Position Summary ID3 is a custom fabrication and scenic build company specializing in high‑end experiential environments, exhibits, and architectural features. The CNC Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery to produce custom components made from wood, plastics, composites, and other materials. This role works closely with Project Managers, Designers, and Fabrication Leads to ensure precision, efficiency, and quality across one‑off and short‑run builds.

Key Responsibilities

Set up, program, and operate CNC routers and related equipment for custom fabrication projects.

Interpret CAD drawings, shop drawings, and cut files to produce accurate components.

Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, and materials for each project.

Perform test cuts and adjust programs as needed to meet design intent.

Collaboration & Project Support

Work closely with Project Managers, Shop Foremen, and Designers to clarify build requirements.

Coordinate with Carpentry, Scenic, Metal, and Paint departments for seamless integration.

Assist with prototyping and problem‑solving for complex or custom builds.

Quality Control & Safety

Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and structural integrity.

Maintain a clean and organized CNC work area.

Follow all shop safety protocols, including PPE requirements.

Identify and report equipment issues or maintenance needs.

Equipment & Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines and tooling.

Track tooling wear and notify management of replacement needs.

Assist with machine calibration and setup improvements.

Required Qualifications

2+ years of experience operating CNC routers in a fabrication or woodworking environment.

Strong understanding of CNC programming and machine setup.

Ability to read and interpret CAD files and technical drawings.

Experience working with materials such as plywood, MDF, plastics, laminates, and composites.

Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven shop.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in custom fabrication, scenic builds, exhibits, or architectural millwork.

Familiarity with software such as Fusion 360, VCarve, Aspire, EnRoute, Rhino, or similar.

Basic carpentry or fabrication skills beyond CNC operation.

Experience with one‑off or short‑run builds rather than production runs.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment with noise, dust, and power tools.

Willingness to work overtime or extended hours during peak production periods.
